Bill Roberts

Bill Roberts

Class of 1957

Bill Roberts is perhaps one of the grreatest athletes to participate in sports at Argenta-Oreana High School. He graduated from Argenta High School in 1957.

Bill had a great basketball and baseball career while attending high school. In one game at Argenta, the "Bombers" had 29 points at half-time, and they all were scored by Bill. If football had been a sport at that time, no doubt Bill would have also been an excellent football player.

Bill continued his athletic career at McKendree College where he again established himself as one of the best athletes in basketball and baseball in the college's history and was recently inducted into McKendree's Athletic Hall of Fame. He went on to earn a Masters Degree from Eastern Illinois University.

Upon graduation from college, Bill had a stellar career as a high school basketball coach, coaching both boys' and girls' teams over a span of 39 years. He was also a high school game official for 45 years and was honored for his outstanding accomplishments and service to the IHSA at an awards recognition program on July 18, 2009.
