Tom Thiel

Tom Thiel

Class of 1956

HIGH SCHOOL YEARS ¬- Tom was in Chemocrats and on the Student Council in his senior year. He also played football and basketball. He attended High School Week in Bozeman in his senior year. He willed “his bad habits to anyone who needs some”.
WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE REUNION - Tom was pleased with the attendance. At first it had looked like there were not going to be so many. It was nice to see people that he hadn’t seen in 50 years. NOW PAY ATTENTION. If anyone didn’t get the CD that Tom made for the reunion, call him. He will be glad to send you one.
AFTER HIGH SCHOOL - Tom went to college in Bozeman for a while then to Western. He thought for a time that he wanted to be a teacher. He decided that wasn’t for him. While he was going to school, he worked painting houses.
He married Beryl Remely (now Beryl Remely Roberts). He worked on her family’s ranch for seven years. Tom later moved to Helena where he went into the life insurance business for the next 22 years. He moved to Great Falls in 1977 and later moved to Big Fork, still in the insurance business. Tom retired in 1987 and has been living the good life ever since.
FAMILY - OK now, you are going to have to follow along with this. Tom was first married to Beryl Remely (now Roberts) for nineteen years. He then married Ruth who died of breast cancer in 1990. He then married Philipa “Phil” and is still married. OK so far?
Tom has one daughter and three sons. The oldest is Kimberliegh. Kimberliegh works for an organization that helps disadvantaged at risk children. She lives in Great Falls with her husband Dan Schaaf. Dan is retired military, and currently works as a hospital medical technician. They have three girls, one in college, and the other two still in high school.
Michael is a teacher in Kalaspell. He teaches math in middle school, but will be moving to a new high school next year. He is married to Carrie, also an English teacher. They have one boy and one girl. Their son lives in Portland, OR, and works for Stumptown Coffee (kind of like Starbucks). Their daughter is in college.
Matthew is an attorney with his own firm in Missoula. He is married to Cindy who is also an attorney.
William is a chemical engineer, and has his own consulting firm (Optimized Operations) in AUSTRALIA! (For those of you that are computer geeks, you can Google him. For those of you not ‘geeks’ - Google is the main way of finding stuff on the internet.) William is currently doing work for Russia on the Sakhalin Islands. Tom and Phil weent to Australia to visit William in April.
LEISURE ACTIVITIES - Tom has a woodworking shop. He makes furniture and has made things for his family. He is also into computer stuff. He is somewhat involved in local politics. (He is in the Burro’s Club that houses statewide candidates when they are campaigning in Butte.)
Tom also installed solar power at his home in May. (See picture. Nice house.)
HIGH SCHOOL MEMORIES - One of Tom’s best friends was George Featherly. He liked math, science and history. Teachers that made an impression in his life included, Mrs. McCollum (math), Mr. Posey (history), Mr. Golde (science and physics) and Pat Curran (English).
