Carol J. Ankney & Charles H. Ankney

Class of 1948

My preference would be to nominate both Charles & Carol Ankney, llifelong residents of Burr Oak. Carol was an employee of the Sturgis Journal for 23 years winning over 570 awards for her writing and 17 years as a Sweepstakes Winner, along with numerous awards from UPI and API in related fields of work. As well, she served 3 terms on Village Council with special interests in street development and the redevelopment of the bridge. She served 18 years on the BOHS School Board and secured a FEDC Grant which was later rescinded, and later awarded due to her fight with the GAO in D.C. This allowed for the school to proceed with its new building. Upon her death, it was her wish that donations be made to the Burr Oak Foundation for scholarships. Charles served on the Council and has been an active volunteer firefighter since his return from military service. He had a much lower profile than Carol, but is and has been a staunch supporter of all that is good about Burr Oak. Both of these citizens have devoted their lives to Burr Oak and honored its finest traditions.
