Class of 1951

I had set records in class 1-A in distict, region and state in the one mile run
in 1951. My record in the mile at state was 4:34.8 which I understand stood for 23 yeas until 1974. My records at District and Region were 42.8 District and 4:31.1 at Region.
I was 5'6" inches tall and weighed 115 pounds just before the race at state. I drew lane one and never passed anybody. One week before the state meet, my coach, Gene Sunderman, took me out on a highway and started me and then drove a mile in his car and I ran that mile. I never felt better in my life. I didn't even push myself. When I arrived at the Coach's car I asked, "How fast?" Coach said, "Too fast, Busby, too fast." He then told me that I had run a 4:22 mile, which was just 4 seconds off the School Boy's World record of 4:18. I didn't learn that until years later. I didn't do anywhere close to 4:22 at state because I react negavtiely to heat and the temperature was over 100 degrees that day.
It took me years to understand my accomplishments in the mile; my heart was larger than my body needed. My heart was sized for a man of 5'9" or taller. So my heart was set up to motorize a man of 5'9" or more.
In other words, it didn't cost me as much to run as it did a normal person.Today, 3-28-12 I am 79. Normally, I work out every day. I walk on the treadmill, uphill, for two miles or I play racquetball. I eat lots fiber; All Bran or Fiber One cereal and/or Nature's Own high fiber bread or Oro Wheat Double Fiber bread. A doctor friend of mine, Dr.Lanny Hunter, brags on my
eating habits. He sais, "If you'll eat high-faber cereal, you have zero chance of colon cancer." Then, he skips breakfast and eats a sweet role for breakfast, about 10 a.m. with coffee.
Go figure.
If anybody wants to call me, my toll-free number, central time zone, is 1-866-289-7833.
