Former Ferris student, Zarah (Sadie) Forsythe has published her first novel, The Weeping Empress. Called “terrific” by Sixpence Press and “refreshing” by Kirkus Indie, it explores the devastating effects of loss, the hunt for redemption, and the price of destiny.
It questions the true meaning of evil, and asks what monster is not also an innocent?

Set in fictional Dashkalil, The Weeping Empress follows Chiyo Alglaeca and her two companions as they tread a treacherous path laid by god herself. Forced into notoriety, stalked by a mysterious cult, hunted by the emperor, and facing betrayal at every turn Chiyo clings to the only safety she can find: two enigmatic men and the sharp bringer of death, Salvation. But will they be enough? Some things aren't meant to be, no matter how hard you fight for them.

Sadie has fond memories of her time at Ferris. Initially a wall flower, whose primary goal was to remain unnoticed, it was here that she first learned to step out of the shadows. After leaving Spokane she attended university in Tennessee and graduate school in Sheffield (UK). She spent seven years working in child protection before returning to university. She is currently working on a second masters, on course for a Ph.D. in the fall. She lives in Manchester England, loves local coffee shops, geek culture, everything bookish, and tea (steaming with milk and sweet iced). She is married with two daughters and an imaginary dog.
