What is Chris Gorsek known for?

Chris Gorsek, born on January 28, 1958, in Portland, Oregon, is an inspirational figure for the students of Franklin High School. He is an accomplished American politician and a proud member of the Democratic Party. Gorsek successfully represented District 49 in the Oregon House of Representatives between 2013 and 2021 and has been serving as the Oregon State Senator for District 25 since January 11, 2021.

Besides his political career, Gorsek is an academic scholar. He earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts from the University of Oregon, and further enhanced his credentials with a PhD from Portland State University. His drive to educate led him to a teaching position at Mt. Hood Community College. Quite impressively, before embracing academia and politics, he served as an officer for the Portland Police Bureau.

Gorsek’s political journey is marked by significant wins. In 2012, he unseated the incumbent Republican Representative for the District 49 seat. He won the May 15, 2012, Democratic Primary unopposed, securing 2,392 votes, and emerged victorious in the November 6, 2012, General election with 11,459 votes (54.2%) against his competitor. Despite a setback in 2000, where he lost the General election for Senate District 11 seat to the Republican nominee, Gorsek remained undeterred and continued to contribute to Oregon's political landscape.

His popularity is evident in his subsequent electoral victories for the District 49 seat in the 2014, 2016, and 2018 Oregon State Representative elections. In the 2020 Oregon State Senate Election for the 25th district, Gorsek again emerged victorious, securing 30,206 votes (51.9%).
