About	Lida A. Nagel October 6, 1947 - January 28, 2009 SALEM - After a long struggle with cancer, Lida Andrea (Rygas) Nagel passed away on January 28, 2009 in Salem, Oregon. Lida Rygas was born October 6, 1947, in East Chicago, Indiana to Lucille and the late Stanley Rygas. She grew up in Hammond and Griffith, Indiana. She earned a Bachelor's degree in mathematics and a Master's degree in Education and Counseling from Purdue University. A longtime resident of Howell, New Jersey, Lida enjoyed a career as a math teacher and most recently as a guidance counselor at Manalapan High School. Lida married Jon Nagel in 1978. They had two daughters, Andrea and Allison. Lida was involved with animals and wildlife rescue for much of her life. She loved making jewelry, traveling, biking, running, and walking with her dogs, Iris and Lani. Lida is survived by her daughter, Allison Nagel of Milton, Vt.; daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Ryan Gray of Evansville, Wisc; grandchildren, Reagan, Avery, Mary, and Jameson Gray; and ex-husband, Jon Nagel of Brooklyn, N.Y. Lida is also survived by her mother, Lucille Rygas of Salem (formerly of the Calumet Region in Indiana); brother, Joe Rygas of San Rafael, Calif.; sister, Jana Rygas of Eugene; sister and brother-in-law, Nasha and Jim Russell of Salem; and many nieces and nephews.
