About	Surrounded by members of his loving family, Artie passed on June 6, 1990 in Los Angeles after a long illness. He was only a youthful 40 years old. He was survived by his mother, Georgia Johnston, three brothers, Larry, Travis, and Tom, nephews Joe and Chad, and a niece, Sarah as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was buried in his native Norton, VA next to his father, Harry Johnston, who had preceded him in death. Artie was a kind and giving individual who was loved by all that came to know him. His premature death left immeasurable grief and loss to his family and friends. He graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1968. He was active in math and science clubs and also served as Senior Class President. He joined the US Navy immediately after high school graduation and was stationed in Holy Loch Scotland and Newport News, Virginia. His computer science skills served him well throughout his naval tour. After completing a four year tour in the Navy, he attended Indiana University in Bloomington where he received a BS degree in business. He was then recruited by Inland Steel in Gary/Hammond to serve as an accountant. A successful career in business and accounting lead him to Los Angeles.
