Doris R. Lofton

Doris R. Lofton

Class of 1963

My name is Doris Ray Lofton. My maiden name is Smith. I was in the homeroom of Mrs. Mayona Reese. Mr best friend was Barbara Moore along with Fannie Scott. I grew up in 4th Ward and lived on Cleveland Street. I attended Jack Yates from 1960-1963. Dr. John E. Codwell was principal. I was in the YMCL Club under the leadership of Mrs. Theresa Prater. One of my most memorable occasions was when we took a trip to Washington DC and ate at the Capital with Senator Albert Thomas. President Kennedy was in office at that time. We toured the White House and was treated real special. We rode the bus and I think the trip cost $75.00 at that time. At my graduation Eloise Laws sang How Great Thou Art and everyone cried. I attend church right now with my Biology teacher Mrs. Birdia Churchwell. I am an active member of the Jack Yates Alumni. We meet every 2nd Monday at Shape Community Center.
