Fernando Graudated in 68, went to the Army in 69 and served about 5months in Vietnam and Cambodia. In May of 1970 he had a chance to meet up with his oldest brother for a few days before going off to fight in Cambodia. Fernando was assigned to the First Cav. 1Bt./5th. Reg. He was also assige as a radio men for the LRRP team Hotel Company 75th. Ranger group. After heavy fighting in Cambodia he returned back to Vietnam where he contunied to fight until he later got wounded and was retured to San Antonio. He finish the sevice in pril of 72. Fernando went on to work and then started going to school at St. Phillips College and completed the courses to become a Vocational teacher. Then in 76 he got married and moved to The Rio Grand Valley, in Mercedes, La fera, then stayed in Edinburg Tx. Fernado became an Automotive Instructor and welding Instructor,. Fernando is now retired after 30 years of teaching. Fernando had three children from his ex- wife and is now remarried. His wife owns a childrens day care and he helps out there. Ferrnando and his two brothers are presently busy with a movie that will be done about them when they were all in Vietnam at the same time and each had a chance to see each other. We are hoping that this movie will be done or completed by late 2010or late 2011. His second oldest brother also went to JFK and finished in 66 his name is Giberto Alvarez, and live in S.A. Tex. and his oldest brother is Emterio Alvarez III and he finished at Edegwood H.S. in 64, and he lives in Tuson Arz.
Fernando is also teaches CPR for adult, child and infants and also teaches AED classes. Fernando now enjoys going fishing, being with the familyand likes to go to the movies. Fernando to has been a Santa claus for at least 29 years for many families here in the valley from poor to rish families and also for the Cancer Centers and hospital and older people.
