Henry Blim, 90 yr old retired Hersey college counselor finalist in free roof contest!

90 year old World War II veteran Henry Blim is in need of a new roof. Henry is a finalist in the "No Roof Left Behind " to win a free new roof competition sponsored by Peterson Roofing. Here is his bio as listed on the No Roof Left Behind website:

In June of 1942 I graduated from high school. I enlisted in the Air Force and chose air mechanics school because I did not have 20-20 vision and could not fly. After AM school at a field in Kansas I worked on B17s and later on B29s. I was spot promoted to Tech Sergeant because, with my crew, I repaired a B29 engine. The plane had been grounded for 4 days because that engine would not run. I made it run perfectly. Crews were training and functioning planes were essential. We were sent to Saipan Island in the Pacific. Over seas the Squadron was assigned 5 more B29S. Making the total of 15. I was named Crew Chief of the 12th plane. It flew 49 missions with out an abort. I was awarded the Bronze Star medal. In November of 1945 I returned home and again began to date Marylin. We were married in 1947. I started college using the GI Bill. A picture of me, Marylin and 3 of our children in the Tribune and Daily News with content, “Dad of 3 gets diploma after 11 and 1/2 years of night
school.” After many jobs I applied for a teaching job with District 214 in Arlington Heights. I was hired and started working with potential “drop out” students at Wheeling High school. I also taught nights in an adult drop out program. The director of the program left after 3 years. I was appointed director. After my third year of being director I was asked to come to Hersey High School as College Counselor. I worked there for 21 years and retired in 1994. I was 70 years old. Marylin and I were married 65 years. She developed a 10 or more year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. I was her major caregiver for most of those years until I no longer was strong enough to continue. Three of our sons (we had 4 sons and 1 daughter) told me “Dad, you are going to die before Mom does.” Hence a nursing home. She was in Hospice care for 2 years and died in the nursing home September 30, 2012.
