Mackey, Robert Age 56, born in New Lenox, Illinois, passed away August 10, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital with his sister and children by his side. Rob enjoyed living in California for many years before moving back to the Chicago land area in the early 80's. Rob always said his greatest joy in life was his children Robby (25) and Mabel (22). The three of them loved and supported one another. They shared great times together during Rob's life. Rob developed computer software and ran his own business for many years. In 2001, he was hired by Continental Amateur Baseball Association (CABA) to develop and run programs and tournaments for the Ho-Chunk baseball complex in Lynwood. Baseball was his passion. For over 40 years, he coached and umpired youth baseball, making a significant impact on many lives. Rob is also survived by his parents Bob (Marilyn) Mackey and LaVerle Mackey, mother of his children, Laura Brady, his nieces Jennifer (Bryan) Lindskog and Sarah Silverman, and his devoted sister Ruth (David) Silverman. Rob was surrounded by many terrific friends who admired his independent spirit, including Arlene Berger, Omar Caballero, Sue Nabhan, and Fran and Nancy Pell. His family would like to thank the amazing staff of the oncology unit of Good Samaritan Hospital who brought him comfort and care during his courageous battle with cancer. According to Rob's wishes, his body was donated to science for medical research. A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Saturday August 13th, at Ho-Chunk Baseball Complex, 10 Southland Drive, Lynwood, IL, beginning at 3pm. In lieu of flowers donations to be used according to the family's wishes would be appreciated.
