What is John Beasley known for?

John Michael Beasley, an accomplished American basketball player, is a notable alumni of Linden-Kildare High School in Linden, Texas. Born on February 5, 1944 in Texarkana, Texas, Beasley made a name for himself in American Basketball Association (ABA) from 1967 to 1974. Although he was selected by the Baltimore Bullets in the 5th round as the 45th overall pick in the 1966 NBA draft, he never played in the NBA. Instead, he chose to build his career in the ABA, playing most of his professional basketball career with the Dallas/Texas Chaparrals and Utah Stars.

Beasley, with a listed height of 6 ft 9 in and weight of 225 lb, was no stranger to accolades. He was named ABA All-Star three times, in 1968, 1969, and 1970, and was honored as the Most Valuable Player of the 1969 ABA All-Star Game. He was also selected for the All-ABA Second Team twice, in 1968, and 1969. During his college basketball career at Texas A&M (1963–1966), he was named the Southwest Conference Player of the Year twice, in 1965, and 1966.
