M.B. Smiley

I just visited and saw the building on July 5, 2011. It looks nothing like it did when I left it. I was shocked at the demise. I enjoyed my tenure there and I hope that we can organize a nice reunion for all of us to get together and remember how great Smiley was.

Closer of Smiley High

I had no idea Smiley High closed. I went to school there and I really liked it. I moved in the Junior year and wish I could of stayed. I flew to Houston in 2008, drove around and looked at the high school. Man oh man did the high school change if it was still the high school. Yes it was. It was gated and appeared to be closed. I thought it was being repaired. Now I find out it is closed. So sad. Great memories! Running accross the bridge, being late for class, at least that was my excuse. Loved the football games and the pep ralleys! To be young again and make more memories with Smiley! I really enjoyed Mrs. Johnson. Does anyone remember her? She harrassed me to no end. I look back now and think she didnt harrass she was just trying to keep me on the right path. We teens knew it all. Right? Wrong!! We thought we knew it all but in reality I really wish she would of pushed me a lot harder.
I watched a movie once and it was about M.B. Smiley high. Loved it and remembered the buildings like I just left. To bad those were my childhood memories.

closing of smiley

THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE CLOSED SMILEY IT WAS THERE LONG BEFORE FOREST BROOK WAS EVEN THOUGHT OF IT WAS THE ONLY HIGH SCHOOL ON THAT SIDE OF TOWN UNTIL THEY BUILT B.C.ELMORE BUT I GUESS THAT SCHOOL DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE EITHER. CAUSE I NEVER HERE ANYTHING ABOUT THAT SCHOOL. AND BE GLAD YOU HAD A CROSSWALK WHEN I WENT TO SMILEY AND WHATEVER SIDE YOUR CLASS WAS ON YOU JUST HAD TO RUN ACROSS THE STREET AND HOPE THAT YOU DIDN'T GET HIT BY A CAR. I WOULD HAVE GRADUATED IN 1970 BUT I MOVED AWAY FROM THAT SIDE OF TOWN WHEN I WAS IN THE 10TH GRADE AND THEN I HAD A CHOICE TO MAKE DO I GO TO SAM HOUSTON OR QUIT I CHOSE TO QUIT. BUT I DID END OF GETTING MY DEGREE FROM THE AMERICAN SCHOOL OF CHICAGO IT WAS A HOME CORRESPONDENCES COURSE TO FINISH HIGH SCHOOL AT HOME. ALWAYS WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO MANY OF MY FRIENDS AND OLD NEIGHBORS. STEVE LUNSFORD, TERRY LUNSFORD, SANDY JOHNSON, ROBERT NEWKIRK, NORMAN CRYER, DAVID SHORT HAD A CRUSH ON HIM BUT NEVER DATED HIM. JIMMY SKINNER OR JERRY SKINNER,BARBARA WHITTEN, RANDY PATE, AND A BUNCH OF OTHER FRIENDS.

DID THEY TEAR SMILEY DOWN OR IS THE BUILDING STILL THERE SAME WITH W.G. SMILEY WENT THERE IN THE 3RD AND 4TH GRADE. THEN THEY BUILT LAKEWOOD ELEM. AND I WENT THERE IN THE 5TH AND 6TH GRADE. THE ONTO KIRBY AND TO SMILEY. SOMETIMES I MISS THAT SIDE OF TOWN THEN OTHER TIMES I THINK THAT I WAS LUCKY TO GET AWAY FROM THERE. NEVER HAVE BEEN TO THE REUNIONS CAUSE I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE I SHOULD GO SINCE I REALLY DIDN'T GRADUATE WITH THOSE BUNCH OF KIDS. BUT I SURE WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME OF THEM AGAIN. RAN INTO STEVE LUNSFORD ONCE IN TOMBALL AND HE KNEW WHO I WAS BUT I DIDN'T KNOW HIM. BUT MY SON AND HIS DAUGHTER WAS GETTING READY TO GRADUATED FROM TOMBALL HIGH SCHOOL TOGETHER. SO YOU NEVER KNOW WHO YOU WILL RUN INTO. FROM THE EAGLES TO A BULLDOG JUST DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. GO FROM BEING THE MIGHTY FIGHTING EAGLES TO A BULLDOG JUST ISN'T RIGHT.

The End of an Era-M.B. Smiley

Well Eagles, the end is here.
North Forest ISD announced that they are combining Smiley and Forest Brook High Schools respectively and the school will now be known as North Forest High School. Their mascot is now the Bulldogs and the colors are black and gold. The M.B. Smiley campus will be closed and all classes will take place at the once known Forest Brook Campus.
Now we must be ever vigilant in our celebration of the past and our futures, we can never go back to our school. It is gone forever. The connection is between those that once walked the halls, crossed the crosswalk and cheered in the stands. We are the class that had to endure no building for 3 years. We will never forget. It was difficult but we did not really notice. It was only really bad on rainy days. We must remember the days of the pep rallys and dances in the boys gym. Those were the days.
