CLASS OF 1981 TO OFFER SCHOLARSHIP

"Tomorrow is not promised to us, so let us take today and make the most of it." Class of 1981
It was their class motto and who could possibly know how true it would hold.
Fifty-two graduated. Next year, they will hold their 30th reunion, minus at least one of them.
Nearly two years after graduation, Audrey Roth was injured in an accident Feb. 10, 1983. Heavy fog was blamed for the collision with a country road grader. Audrey suffered head wounds and was listed in serious condition. She died Oct. 6, 1984. She was 21.
Audrey was fun and full of life and laughter, her best friend Gina Henrickson said.
"And feisty. Yeah, I remember feisty," read a letter signed by Jennie Glass to her classmates announcing the reunion.
Glass, along with Gina and Shane Yoder, make up the reunion committee. But they will also take on another role for this reunion – as members of the Audrey Roth Memorial Scholarship fund committee.
It's a onetime scholarship, to be given for the school year 2010-2011.
Audrey would have liked that, Gina said, because she took great care in helping people. At the time of her death, Audrey worked at Sunrise Country Manor, then called the Milford Rest Home. "I think she's trying to guide us," Gina said.
It's hard for Gina to talk about her friend and show the scrapbook she made for Audrey when they graduated. Tears come to her eyes, but she smiles, too.
"Audrey would have liked to help someone go to school. Financially, it's a tough time," Gina said.
Gina has worked with Audrey's mother, Jeanene Roth, and Guidance Counselor, Kevin Fields, at Milford High School in planning the scholarship.
"Truly a labor of love," wrote Glass in the letter.
The committee is seeking donations for the one time scholarship. If they receive more to keep it going, it will be a nice surprise.
