Weldon H. McQueary, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 9th, 2018, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
A memorial service is 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19th, at First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells.
Weldon was born in Santo, Texas, to Rev. William and Ruth McQueary on October 8th, 1922. He met and married Patti Whatley after meeting each other in the Mineral Wells First Baptist Church choir. They married in 1950. He was a Deacon and a faithful servant in the church.
Weldon served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. He survived a plane crash during training sessions on a new aircraft a few days before he was to go overseas. He spent a year in the hospital recovering and was kept stateside for the remainder of the war.
Weldon earned a master's degree in Education at North Texas State University. He spent his career as a teacher, coach and elementary school principal. He loved his students and staff and they loved him.
After retirement he continued to enjoy gardening, music, learning to weld and used that skill to build fences and artistic metal art pieces.
Weldon and Patti moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, in 2013 to live with their daughter, Kathy, and her family.
Weldon is survived by daughter, Kathy Stewart (Mike); five grandchildren, Brandi Knippa (Matthew), Susan Gladstein (Daryl), Chad McQueary, Luke Stewart (Ashley) and Jeb Stewart; and five great-grandchildren, Savannah Knippa, Wyatt Knippa, Spencer Stout, Sydney Stout, Evie McQueary.
Weldon was preceded in death by his son, Jan McQueary; brothers, Amos McQueary, Bill McQueary and Curtis McQueary; and sisters, Christine Hearn, Rachel Coker and Fannie Jordan.
