About	just as the 1992-93 school year was drawing to a close,Cathie Janeway,a teacher at Southside for 15 years,lost a nearly two-year long fight with cancer. A special education teacher,Mrs.Janeway is remembered by her students for being patient and caring.She expected a lot of them and did not settle for students not acheving up to their full potential. Throughout her illness ,Mrs Janeway continued to hold out hope that she would be able to return to her job here. Students and teachers at Southside mourned the loss of this gifted teacher. Her former students attended the funeral in a large group,and many of the school's faculty members were also in attendance. They remembered Cathie for,her sense of humor,dedication to her students,and overall personal character and decency. Cathie Janeway will be missed by everyone at Southside,but especially by the many students she cared for thoughout her career.The 1993 Southerner is dedcicated to the memory of Mrs.Cathie Janeway.
