Doris Severtsen Brown Heritaqge

Class of 1960

Doris Severtsen-Heritage, a two-time Olympian, graduated from Peninsula High School in 1960. Four years later, she graduated from Seattle Pacific University.
Here’s a list of her accomplishments:
Five-time world cross-country champion
Earned positions on two U.S. Olympic teams.
Silver medalist in the Pan-American Games in the 800-meter race in 1971.
Elected as the first woman in the cross-country road race committee.
As a coach at Seattle Pacific, her cross country teams placed in the Top 10 at national meets nine times, and SPU won the Pacific West Conference women's championship numerous times.
Only 2nd woman inducted into the USA Track and Field Hall of Fame, in 1990.
Held world records in the 3,000 with a time of 9 minutes, 26.90 seconds on July 7, 1971, and the two-mile run in 10:07 on the same day.
Placed fifth in the Olympic trials in the 800.
In 1966, she became the first woman to run a sub-five-minute mile indoors, registering a time of 4:52.
Represented the United States on nine world cross-country teams and won 14 national titles.
Member of the Distance Running Hall of Fame.
