Scott E. Deaton

Class of 1988

Scott attended the University of Alabama after graduating from Pepperell High School. He was a Criminal Justice major. After graduation from the University of Alabama, he worked for the Memphis Police Department for several years as an officer after which he joined the United States Secret Service. He died in the performance of duty on June 11, 1999. He died in a motorvehicle accident on his way to a protective detail for first lady Hillary Clinton. Scott was 29 years old. He dreamed of joining the US Secret Service, accomplished his goal, and served our nation proudly as an agent until his death. Through the Scott E. Deaton endowed scholarship at the University of Alabama, others are receiving and will continue to receive help in accomplishing their own goals. Scott is survived by his parents, Richard Deaton and Eva Rae "Rusty" Deaton, uncle, Donald Lowe, aunt, Emma Lowe, and cousins, to whom he was a little brother, Mark Lowe, Rena Lowe, and Denise Lowe Taylor.
