About	Mr. Ralph Harlan Smith, Jr., age 55, of 16106 Atlantis Drive, Bowie, MD, 20716, formerly of Lindale, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2009 in Washington, DC following a massive heart attack. Mr. Smith was born in Floyd County on March 29, 1953, the son of Ralph H. Smith, Sr. and the late Lillian Carol Burchfield Smith, who preceded him in death on February 12, 2007. He was also preceded in death by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Burchfield, Rome, Mr. Charles H. Smith, Lindale, Mr. and Mrs. Norman R. Harper, Lindale, and by a nephew, Kevin Godfrey, Rome. Mr. Smith was a 1971 graduate of Pepperell High School in Lindale. Immediately following graduation, he joined the U.S. Army, received his B. A. degree, and proudly served his country for over 21 years. At the time of his death, he was employed by the U.S. Department of Defense in Washington, DC. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, the former Vannipa Malaithong; a son, Ralph H. Smith, III, Tampa, Fla.; a daughter Sarah Ramyen Smith, Bowie, MD, a step-son Bond Phittayasri, Bowie, MD; his father, Ralph H. Smith, Sr., Lindale; three sisters, Mrs. Carissa Smith Kelley and her husband, Dannie, Cedartown, Ms. Amy Smith Waters, Tucker, GA, and Mrs. Janet Smith Magnusson and her husband, Ken, Rome; eight nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 26, 2009 in the Chapel of Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA with the Rev. Jimmy E. Painter officiating. Interment services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2009, at 10am in the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Fairview Baptist Church, 2348 Old Cedartown Road, Lindale, GA 30147.
