DIXIE BROWN MURPHY

Dixie Brown Murphy, 72, of Walkersville, MD, previously of Wilmington NC, passed away on June 12, 2011, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Dixie was born on February 2, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to the late Arval and Lily May Brown. She was the devoted wife of Dr. Dennis Murphy for 30 years before he passed away in 2003. She is survived by their three daughters, Laura Kostyk and husband Dave of Peyton, Colorado; Monica Robyns and husband Nathan of Frederick MD; and Helen Kirkwood and husband Brian of Holly Springs, NC. She was "Grammy" to 7 grandchildren who will miss her dearly.

Ms. Murphy was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone before her marriage to Dr. Murphy. After her children were born, she stayed home for 11 years to raise her family. In 2008, she moved to Walkersville MD, from Wilmington NC, to be closer to her family and grandchildren. Dixie was employed locally by Coldwater Creek in Frederick MD.

Dixie loved to spend time with her friends and family, and was an avid ballroom dancer. She enjoyed dancing, going for walks, working crossword puzzles, playing cards, and vacationing. She will be dearly missed by her special friends at Victoria Park Apartments. She was blessed to meet so many good friends in her new Maryland home.

The family extends a sincere thank you to Dr. Oh and the staff at the Cancer Care Center of Frederick, as well as Frederick County Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Dixie during her illness.

A memorial service celebrating Dixie's life will be held on Wednesday, June 15 at 3pm at Monocacy Valley Church, in Ijamsville, MD.
