What is John Brandon known for?

John Brandon, a noted novelist and teacher, was born in Bradenton, Florida, and is an alumni of River Ridge High School in New Port Richey, Florida. Moving on to higher education, he attended the University of Florida, where he earned a degree in English. Furthering his study, he received a Master's degree in fiction writing from Washington University in St. Louis.

Brandon is reputed in the literary world as a young, influential author of Southern Gothic and cult fiction. His noteworthy works include "A Million Heavens," "Citrus Country," "Arkansas," and "Further Joy." Heavily influenced by Flannery O'Connor, his writing has made significant impacts.

His novel 'Arkansas' earned him recognition from Barry Hannah, who nominated him for the John and Renee Grisham Writer-in-Residence program at the University of Mississippi. Before becoming a fellow at the Gilman School and teaching at Hamline University in Minnesota, he worked a series of warehouse and factory jobs. Adding to his diverse career, he served as GQ's SEC College Football analyst.
