Paul G. Lartz, 52, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House after a brief & brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 26, 2010 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for donations to Paul’s favorite charities.
He was born in Davenport, Iowa on September 22, 1957 the son of Wilbur J. & Patricia J. (Kromenaker) Lartz Jr. On June 14, 2003, he was united in marriage to Laurie A. Ericksen at Old St. Ann’s Church in Long Grove, Iowa.
Paul was a journeyman wireman and affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, Local 145 of Moline, Illinois since 1982. He had been the Director of Safety & Training at Tri-City Electric Company of Davenport for 3 ½ years and formerly served at the Training Director for the Quad-City Electrical Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee for 13 years.
He was a tireless volunteer who served as Precinct Committee Chairman in the past for his voting district and was actively involved with Boy’s Little League and Girl’s Softball as an assistant coach while his children were progressing through those age levels. Paul served on many committees including the Davenport School to Work Committee, the Davenport Community School Districts School Improvement Advisory Council, the Illinois Quad-City Chamber of Commerce School to Work Initiative and the Illinois Quad-City Chamber of Commerce Education to Careers Committee. He also served as chairman of the Illinois Quad-City Chamber of Commerce Education to Careers Work Based Projects Committee and chairman of the Management Team for the Illinois Quad-City Chamber of Commerce Education to Careers Committee.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf, loved tropical vacations and treasured the time spent with his family swimming, cooking-out and relaxing at his home.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Laurie; his daughter, Molly Lartz of Chicago, Illinois; his son, Steven Lartz of Chicago; his mother, Patricia Lartz of Steven’s Point, Wisconsin; his step-daughters, Wendy Ericksen of Bettendorf, Lindsey (Matt) Russell of Bettendorf and Jenny Ericksen of Bettendorf; his step-grandson, Camden Russell; his sisters, Lu Ann “Lu” (Tom) Opperman of Steven’s Point and Michelle Lartz of Wausau, Wisconsin; and his brother, John (Bonnie) Lartz of Moline, Illinois.
His father, Wilbur Lartz Jr. and his step-mother, Kay C. Lartz preceded him in death.
