About	Janet Carol Knowles, 86, of Salem, passed away on January 10, 2024, in Salem. She was born in Winfield, Kansas to Preston and Iva Bohnstedt and came to Vallejo, California before moving to Salem, Oregon in 1946. Jan graduated from South Salem High School in 1955 and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree from Oregon State University in 1959. While at Oregon State University Jan resided in Jameson House where she was appointed house president. Following graduation, she began work with the State of Oregon. Jan married Robert Knowles on March 28, 1961. They were blessed with one daughter, Teresa. Jan worked as a social worker for 42 years. She was very proud of the work that she did, the families she helped, and all her accomplishments while working with the State of Oregon. After retirement, Jan volunteered with the Salem Library, the Salem Hospital, and worked part-time at Macy's. Jan enjoyed baking, knitting, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She was blessed with numerous pets over the years, which she adored. Jan was known for her fiery spirt, and passion for things that were important to her. Jan is survived by her daughter, Teresa Klampe of Joseph, granddaughter, Audrey Klampe of Salem, and grandson, Noah Klampe of Gates. Jan was preceded in death by father, Preston Bohnstedt, mother, Iva Bohnstedt, brother, Ted Bohnstedt and former husband, Robert Knowles. Private services are pending. Those wishing to honor her life can donate, in her name, to Oregon State University Foundation or Willamette Humane Society.
