About Sherri Annette Turner, 25, died June 5 at her home. Born in Vancouver, WA, she moved to Stayton as a small child. She attended schools here and graduated from Stayton Union High School and Salem School of performing Arts in 1989. She was active in choir, French and Drama.

She competed in various talent, beauty and modeling competitions winning numerous awards. She was Oregon’s Miss Hemisphere in 1991, represented Oregon as Photogenic Teen for three consecutive years, reigned as Miss America Beauty and as Miss American Sweetheart. In 1991 she was chosen by the International Model and Talent Association as International Model of the year and represented the modeling industry of all nations. She attended Ricks College majoring in Russian. During her freshman and sophomore years, she worked for the U.S.S.R Ministry of Social Protection, coordinating international aid to Soviet hospitals and orphanages. She served a mission for the L.D.S. Church to Geneva, Switzerland in 1992-93. When she returned home she attended Utah State and Portland State Universities, majoring in French, Russian and Economics. She taught French in the Salem Community School systems.

She was a member of the Stayton Ward of the L.D.S. Church where she held many callings. She enjoyed traveling and did so extensively. She also wrote poetry, enjoyed art, reading and family adventures. Survivors include her parents, James & Marilyn Turner of Sublimity; brother, Mike Turner of Logan , UT; sisters, Katie Fleming and Dawn Cassaro of Portland and Shannon McLaughlin of Salem; grandparents, Chuck and Dorthea Frazier of Sublimity and Marland and Eutilla Vann of Chiloquin; and six nephews. Services were held at the Stayton L.D.S Church. Viewing was before the service and interment followed in Lone Oak Cemetery, Stayton. Arrangements were by Weddle Funeral Home, Stayton
