What is Scott Atchison known for?

Scott Atchison, born on March 29, 1976, in Denton, Texas, is a renowned American former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher. Known for his right-hand pitching prowess, Atchison had an outstanding career spanning over a decade, from 2004 to 2015.

After graduating from McCullough High School in The Woodlands, Texas, he initially got drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 1994 amateur draft. However, he opted to attend Texas Christian University where he completed his degree in general studies. Atchison again got the chance to play for Seattle Mariners when he got drafted in the 1998 amateur draft.

He started his professional career playing for the Mariners in 2004, then bounced between minor and major leagues till 2005. He then went on to play for a number of other notable MLB teams, including the San Francisco Giants in 2007, the Boston Red Sox from 2010 to 2012, the New York Mets in 2013, and finally the Cleveland Indians from 2014 to 2015. His MLB career was punctuated with an impressive win-loss record of 17-11 and a commendable 253 strikeouts.

Between his stints in MLB, Atchison also showcased his pitching skills in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). He played for the Hanshin Tigers from 2008 to 2009 and managed a win-loss record of 12-9 and 166 strikeouts.

Beyond his player career, Atchison also served as the bullpen coach for the Cleveland Indians during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. With his valuable contributions to baseball, both as a player and a coach, Scott Atchison continues to be a notable alumnus from The Woodlands High School.
