About Stephen Brent Carpenter, 66, of New Castle, passed away on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born on April 11, 1955 in Linton, Indiana, a son of the late Robert and Rosalie (Franklin) Carpenter.

Steve was a 1973 graduate of Tri High School and served in the US Navy for 11 years on Nuclear Submarines. Following his service in the Navy, Steve worked for various power plants across the country as a safety contractor. He was a passionate learner and was very knowledgeable in many areas. Steve enjoyed working on equipment, farming, and spending time outside. He loved trains, clocks, computers, audiobooks, and playing games.

Those left to cherish Steve’s memory include his loving wife, Linda Carpenter, whom he married in 2009; children, Stephen Wayne Carpenter of Danbury, CT, Laura Pigford of Hartsville, South Carolina, Jayne (Cassel) Carpenter Smith of New Castle, Brian (Kindra) Carpenter of Wharton, OH, Brent (Jennifer) Carpenter of Lewisville, and Bruce (Melany) Carpenter of Indianapolis; several grandchildren including, Silas Smith, Bracey, Ava, Eli, Solomon, and Jeremiah Carpenter; a brother, Vernon (Judy) Carpenter of Greenfield; three sisters, Anita (Hugh) Johnson of Greenfield, Nyla (Robert) Sealover of Sulphur Springs, and Marcy (John) Stroh of South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Brandon Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, September 27, 2021, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Sims officiating. Burial will follow in Lewisville Cemetery with military funeral honors conducted by contingents from the US Navy, American Legion, and VFW.

Friends may call from 11:00 am until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
