Mary Hettinger Millsap, daughter of Mark and Eunice Hettinger of Philo. Ms. Hettinger attended Illinois State University, majoring in Special Education and graduated in 1980. She received her Masters in Educational Administration in 1986 and a Specialist Degree in Educational Administration in 2000 from Eastern Illinois University. Ms. Hettinger's career began as a special education teacher at Homer High School. Ms. Hettinger's 25 year career has been divided between the Champaign and Tolono School Districts. While employed in the Champaign School District, Ms. Hettinger served in the positions of teacher, dean of students and assistant principal. Ms. Hettiner later accepted a position at Unity Junior High School where she held the position of principal for five years before returning to Champaign Unit #4 as principal at Jefferson Middle School. In 2003, Ms. Hettinger "returned home" as Principal of Unity Junior High School and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction of Community School District #7. Ms. Hettinger's long range commitment to students and education are based in her professional affiliations and Ms. Hettinger's awards are reflected in the accomplishments of the student's lives she has touched in all five communities. Ms. Hettinger constantly strives to implement methodologies and make decisions that improve student achievement and are in the best interest of children. The devotion to her work and commitment to service are not limited to the classroom as she has combined her personal experience with cancer and compassion for people to provide assistance and support for others who are diagnosed with cancer. Mary and her husband, Rod Millsap, live south of Philo on their family farm. They have two children, Josh and Lacy.
