Mike Otten

Class of 1951

I am not sure I should be considered distinguished. My greatest accomplishment was having a great marriage and two children who are my best friends. But on the more public side I did get a Phd in Sociology from the University of Calfornia. Prior to that I got a degree from St. Johns University in Minn. Then I spent a brief time working for a liberal, Catholic political justice organization, two years in the army, 5 years at graduate school. I published two books. One of them was favorably reviewed in the London Times. Thats a pretty big deal. I was a country kid who lived on the last school bus stop. High school was a wonderful period of expansion and the beginning of my bigger world. I became a professor. I was in Washington a short time ago, and passing by my old high school brough back feelings of deep gratitudel. WCHS will always remain my foundation for a great life.
