About OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Oct 18 1978 “Kary S. Holmes, 21, Killed In Car Accident”

Kary S. Holmes of the Hilltop Addition, Iron River, age 21, died Friday, October 13, 1978 near Bruce Crossing as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident.

Mr. Holmes was born April 25, 1957 in Stambaugh. He is survived by his wife Jill; mother Mrs. Gloria Jurecic of Caspian; one sister Mrs. Michael (Kathryn) Taetsch of Iron River; and paternal grandmother Mrs. Ina Holmes of Stambaugh.

Mr. Holmes graduated from the West Iron County High School in 1975 and was employed at Coleman Products. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church. Kary Holmes was married to the former Jill Schinella in May of this year.

The funeral service was held Monday, October 16 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church of Iron County with Reverend Clayton Parcels, pastor, and Reverend Fr. Aloysius Hasenberg of St. Agnes Church officiating.

Burial was made in the Stambaugh Cemetery.

The organist was Mrs. Paul Wilson and soloist was Miss Rose Benson, who sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee.”

Pallbearers were John Riverside, Gene Cristan, Gary Marcell, Kenneth Osier, Daniel Tedeleo and Thomas Leonoff.

NEWS ARTICLE Iron River Reporter Oct 18 1978 “Four Killed, Two Injured In Ontonagon County Accident”

ONTONAGON COUNTY-Four young men are dead, one remains in critical condition and an 18 year old girl is listed in stable to satisfactory condition as the result of a two car collision which occurred at 10:30 p.m. EST on Friday, October 13 on M-28, seven miles east of US-45.

Killed in one vehicle were Thomas J. Nardi, 22, Caspian, the driver of the car, Kary Steven Holmes, 21, Iron River, John L. Pellizzer, 21, Caspian. Nardi and Holmes died Friday and Pellizzer passed away the following evening as the result of injuries.

A fourth man from the same car, John W. Sporer, 22, Stambaugh, remains in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Marquette General Hospital North.

Killed in the other vehicle, a 1976 pickup truck, was the driver, Paul A. Kallio, 22, Bruce Crossing.

His passenger Sheryl Sjogren, 18, Trout Creek, is listed in stable to satisfactory condition in a hospital in Ontonagon with multiple fractures, contusions and abrasions.

State Police indicated the pickup apparently crossed the center line and struck the Nardi car.
