What is Bob Tway known for?

Robert Raymond Tway IV, also known as Bob Tway, is an American professional golfer, born on May 4, 1959, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A distinguished alumnus of Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia, Tway has had an illustrious career in the sporting world.

He was introduced to golf at the tender age of five and began making waves in the golfing world from an early age. His first taste of competition was at the age of seven, and he eventually won the Redding Country Club Championship as a junior golfer in Redding, Connecticut.

Tway later attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he had an exceptional college golfing career. He was a three-time, first-team All-American during his last three years. The Oklahoma State Cowboys won the NCAA Championship in 1978, Tway's freshman year, and again two years later with Tway as their star player. He also secured the acclaimed Haskins Award in his senior year.

Tway turned professional in 1981 and became part of the PGA Tour in 1985. 1986 marked the zenith of his career; he was named PGA Player of the Year and clinched four victories, punctuated with a major win in the PGA Championship. He also earned the second spot on the final money list that year.

One of Tway's greatest achievements was his victory in the 1986 PGA Championship, held at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. He finished with a score of 276, a two-stroke margin against Greg Norman. His fantastic play at the 18th hole, where he holed a greenside bunker shot on the final day, is among the most memorable shots in golf history.

Despite recording the worst score on the 17th Hole at TPC Sawgrass during the 2005 Players Championship, Tway has managed a formidable career. His earnings from the PGA Tour exceed 14 million dollars. Upon turning 50 in May 2009, he began playing on the Champions Tour, with his best finish being T-2 at the 2009 Administaff Small Business Classic.

On the personal side, Tway lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, and his son, Kevin Tway, has followed in his father's footsteps, also becoming a professional golfer and winning on the PGA Tour.

In terms of statistics, Bob Tway has had a total of 13 professional wins, including 8 PGA Tour victories. His significant contributions to the sport of golf have made him a notable figure in the sporting world and a proud alumni of Wheeler High School.
