What is Ron Pope known for?

Born on July 23, 1983, in Newark, New Jersey, Ronald Michael Pope, popularly known as Ron Pope, is a sought-after singer-songwriter. Raised in Marietta, Georgia, he attended Joseph Wheeler High School in Marietta before moving to Rutgers University to play baseball. However, after a career-ending injury, Pope was led toward a new passion in music. Transferring to New York University, it was there that he encountered his future bandmates, Zach Berkman and Paul Hammer, and co-wrote the internet sensation "A Drop in the Ocean" with Berkman.

Pope, Berkman, and other members formed the band The District, garnering success as a college band with three albums to their credit. Notably, his solo career took off when he performed on MTV's TRL as an up-and-coming artist in 2008. During this time, he independently released four of his own albums before signing a year-long recording contract with Universal Republic and releasing the singles, "A Drop in the Ocean" and "I Believe". Later, "A Drop in the Ocean" was honored with Platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America for combined sales and streaming equivalent of over 1 million.

Striking out on his own again, Pope has since self-produced and released music through his own label, Brooklyn Basement Records, which he founded with his wife, Blair Clark. His move to Nashville, seemed to have invigorated his musical style, with Rolling Stone praising his work as a fusion of different musical ideas held together by his consistent songwriting voice. His career has also seen him perform in tribute to the legendary Aretha Franklin at the prestigious Carnegie Hall.

Besides the music industry, Pope's songs have found recognition on television, with placements on shows including So You Think You Can Dance and The Vampire Diaries, and guest appearances on shows like Nashville.

Undoubtedly, Ron Pope has left a lasting imprint on the music scene with a discography that boasts a plethora of albums, EPs, and singles, continuously releasing music and keeping fans on their toes. His latest work, "Inside Voices", was released in 2023.
