Graduation Year Class of 1971
Date of Passing Oct 03, 2009
About Doris eventually returned to the suburban Chicago area. She received her M.D. from the Univ. of Louisville, completed her internship/residencies at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and practiced for over 25 years as a highly revered OB/GYN physician. She often performed surgery and deliveries at Alexian Brothers (Elk Grove, IL), Northwest Memorial (Arlington Heights) or Central Dupage hospitals in the course of her duties, all of which are situated quite close to her Willowbrook roots.

Achieving board (FACOG) certification early in her career, Doris was named a Chicago area top doctor in 2000 by the nationally prestigious Castle Connolly Medical authority. Physicians are nominated by their peers (under Castle Connolly criteria): leading medical specialists, department chairs, residency program directors, vice presidents of medical affairs and presidents of medical centers and specialty hospitals.

Based on the numerous posts on legacy she lived her life...as she did at WB: a very genuine person who exhibited a sharp wit (with a droll sense of humor) and diligence in always going the extra (compassionate) mile for her patients and their families. The following quote from a patient on legacy.com effectively summarizes the formidable courage, class and grace exhibited by Doris:
I was fortunate to have my last exam done by her when she first returned to Female Healthcare in 2008 but she left shortly after returning. Even then, her spirits were the same as always. You never would have known all she was going through. She gave the same care and service as always. I feel like I have lost a family member. There should be more like her in the field of medicine.
On the one-year anniversary of her tragic death, another patient stated on legacy.com:
I think about her often and miss her beautiful smile, wonderful laugh, and compassion. It still is so hard to believe a year has gone by. She will always hold a special place in my heart...

Always striking in presence, her life example in caring for others will no doubt influence those who follow in her footsteps. She was dedicated to her family and she was described as the anchor of the extended family. By way of example, Doris encouraged and supported her husband in completing his doctorate in psychology, mid-career. Finally, although she ultimately lost her valiant (over two-year) battle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, she was able to celebrate a daughter's graduation as a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) a few months before her passing. A loving and lasting tribute as Doris was an avid dog lover.
Her son also carries on the legacy as a medical student and she will always, no doubt, be proud of her first and oldest daughter, an Emory graduate and Financial Manager for a Fortune 100 company.
