What is Paul Revere Dick known for?

Paul Revere Dick, professionally known as Paul Revere, is a notable alumni of Caldwell High School in Caldwell, Idaho. Born in Harvard, Nebraska, he is best known as the founder and member of the American rock band Paul Revere & the Raiders. The band was formed in Boise, Idaho, in 1958 and reached considerable U.S mainstream success during the second half of the 1960s and early 1970s. Known for their Revolutionary War-style clothes, the band initially started as an instrumental rock combo called The Downbeats.

Revere, being an organist, along with singer Mark Lindsay played a significant part in the band's success. Their initial minor hit "Like, Long Hair" charted in 1961 and they just missed the Billboard's Hot 100 in late 1963 with a cover of "Louie Louie". Eventually, they were signed to Columbia Records and gained huge exposure through Dick Clark's shows such as "Where The Action Is". Their single "Just Like Me" reached no. 11 on the Hot 100, followed by the consecutive Top Tens "Kicks" and "Hungry", thus establishing the band as national stars.

Between 1966 and '69, they reached the top 30 with 12 hits, and their three 1966 albums - "Just Like Us", "Midnight Ride" and "The Spirit of '67" - were gold-certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). They also had a successful cover of the song "Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)" in 1971, which reached number one in both the US and Canada, and was certified platinum in 1996.
