Alfonse "Al" Hunter, born on February 21, 1955, in Greenville, North Carolina, is a former professional running back in American football. His early football journey began at Junius H. Rose High School, Greenville, North Carolina, where he made a name for himself.

Following his high school years, Hunter went to Notre Dame and became part of their victorious team that won the national championship in 1973. He also made history by being the first player to enter the NFL through the Supplemental Draft.

Hunter's professional career spanned four seasons from 1977 to 1980, all of them with the Seattle Seahawks. He played as a running back and wore the number 24 jersey. During his time in the NFL, he achieved significant statistics. He had 180 rushing carries, 715 rushing yards, with an average of 4.0 yards per carry. He also scored four touchdowns and made 27 receptions for a total of 331 receiving yards.
