What is Lon McEachern known for?

Lon McEachern is a highly notable alumni from Redwood High School in Larkspur, California. Born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1956 or 1957, Lon moved to the San Francisco Bay Area at a young age and was raised in Corte Madera, Marin County. During his time at Redwood High School, he demonstrated his athletic prowess by participating in the school's baseball team, alongside future MLB shortstop Buddy Biancalana.

Following his high school education, Lon attended Santa Barbara City College where he continued his baseball pursuits, playing alongside future-MLB player Jesse Orosco. After Santa Barbara City College, Lon transferred to University of California, Santa Barbara, showing a clear interest in the art of communication by earning a B.A. in Communications. While studying, he also worked at the campus radio station KCSB-FM.

After graduating from college and working radio at KTMS, Lon ventured into the television industry, working at multiple stations including KCOY-TV, KGO-TV, and KPIX-TV. His association with ESPN began during this period, providing coverage for the X Games among other sporting events. It was in 2002 that Lon transitioned into a role that would make him a household name among poker fans - the sports commentator for the prestigious World Series of Poker. Known to fans as the "voice of poker", his insightful hand-by-hand commentary has been a hallmark of the World Series of Poker broadcasts on ESPN.

Despite his flourishing career, Lon still demonstrated his versatility by working as a mortgage banker for nearly five years while providing poker coverage on the side. Other notable stints in his career include serving as the commentator for the PBA Tour during the 2012-13 season and commentating for Pride 33 in 2007.

On a personal note, Lon married his fellow UC Santa Barbara alumna, Carol Czyzewski, in 1981, and they have two children. His nephew, Matthew Wood, has made a name for himself in the entertainment world, working as a sound engineer for Skywalker Sound on several Star Wars films.
