Evan Scribner

Former MLB player (San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics)[7]

What is Evan Scribner known for?

Evan Lee Scribner, born July 19, 1985 in New Milford, Connecticut, is a celebrated alum of Shepaug Valley High School who made a significant mark in the world of Major League Baseball (MLB). Scribner is an accomplished former professional baseball pitcher, well-known for his stints with the San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics, and Seattle Mariners.

Scribner's professional career began when he was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 28th round (853rd overall) of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft, weeks after setting records for career wins (23) and saves (14) at Central Connecticut State University.
In 2008, the Diamondbacks traded Scribner to the San Diego Padres, where he debuted in the MLB on April 26, 2011.

His career took a decisive turn on October 25, 2011, when he was claimed off waivers by the Oakland Athletics. He clinched crucial wins during the last leg of the season for the Athletics, leading them to the AL West division crown.

After developing a new pitch, Scribner emerged as a crucial player for Oakland with Tyler Clippard moving to the closer role as a result of 2014 closer Sean Doolittle being placed on the Disabled List. However, his 2015 season ended prematurely due to a torn lat muscle, which led to him being placed on a 60-day disabled list on September 2, 2015.

In December 2015, Scribner was traded by the Athletics to the Seattle Mariners, where he spent most of the 2016 season on the Disabled list. He made his Mariners debut on September 3. However, he was placed on waivers for his unconditional release from the Mariners on September 5, 2017.

During his illustrious career, Scribner tallied an MLB win-loss record of 5-4, an earned run average of 4.15, and 155 strikeouts.

After his time with the Mariners, Scribner continued his professional baseball tenure with the Tampa Bay Rays, followed by a short stint with the New Britain Bees of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, before becoming a free agent following the 2018 season.

While Scribner has retired from professional baseball, his impact on the sport and contribution to his teams ensure that his legacy lives on.
