Eric Stark Maskin, a notable alumnus of Tenafly High School, New Jersey, was born on December 12, 1950 in New York City. Maskin, an American economist and mathematician, is renowned for his contributions to the field of economics. He was jointly awarded the 2007 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Leonid Hurwicz and Roger Myerson for laying the foundations of mechanism design theory.

Maskin's academic career is incredibly accomplished. He has been associated with several prestigious institutions, including Harvard University, Institute for Advanced Study, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University, and the University of Cambridge. He served as the Adams University Professor and Professor of Economics and Mathematics at Harvard University, as well as the Albert O. Hirschman Professor of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study.

Maskin has a rich educational background, having graduated with an A.B. in mathematics from Harvard College in 1972, and later earning his A.M. in applied mathematics and Ph.D. in the same field from Harvard University. He was also a visiting student at Darwin College, Cambridge University in 1975-76.

After earning his doctorate in 1976, Maskin served as a research fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge University. He joined the faculty at Massachusetts Institute of Technology the following year and then returned to Harvard as the Louis Berkman Professor of Economics in 1985. In 2000, Maskin moved to the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. His work in the field has spanned areas such as game theory, the economics of incentives, and contract theory. Alongside Jean Tirole, Maskin advanced the concept of Markov perfect equilibrium.

Maskin is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Econometric Society, and the European Economic Association. His notable achievements and contributions to economic theory make him a standout alumnus of Tenafly High School.
