Steve Rothman, a notable alumnus from Tenafly High School in Tenafly, New Jersey, is an accomplished American jurist and politician, as well as a member of the Democratic party. Born on October 14, 1952, in Englewood, New Jersey, Rothman has had an illustrious career in politics. His political journey saw him serving as the U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 9th congressional district from January 3, 1997, to January 3, 2013. Furthermore, he also held office as the Mayor of Englewood, New Jersey, from 1983 to 1989.

From a young age, Rothman showed ambition and leadership. During his time at Tenafly High School, he held several positions such as the senior class president, was recognized as the Best School Citizen, and played the lead role in the school's drama, Twelve Angry Men, among other things. Apart from excelling at academics, he was also involved in sports, participating in soccer, tennis, and swimming.

Rothman's educational journey extended beyond his high school years. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Syracuse University in 1974, where he majored in political philosophy. He was also a part of the university's student supreme court for his sophomore, junior, and senior years, and in 1973-74 he served as its elected Chief Justice.

In his professional life, he held various significant roles in Congress, where he was part of the House Appropriations Committee and also served on the House Judiciary, Foreign Affairs, and Science and Technology Committees. Interestingly, before his election to the U.S. Congress, Rothman served as the elected Bergen County Surrogate Court judge.

In 2012, after the congressional redistricting, Rothman ran in a Democratic primary to continue representing the redrawn NJ-9. Unfortunately, he was defeated by fellow incumbent Bill Pascrell, formerly the congressman for NJ-8.
