| About Me | Here's a bio from my website: I was born and raised in Yakima Washington, and graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1961. After my freshman year at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, I interrupted my college education to serve two years in the Peace Corps (Philippines). In the Peace Corps I was a community development worker, helping Filipino farmers improve crops, giving classes on sanitation, and doing voter education. I returned to the US in 1964 to complete my college education at the University of Washington. In undergraduate school I attended classes during the day; worked the night shift 40 hours a week in downtown Seattle at a hotel and then a title insurance company; and did all my homework on the weekends. I got my BA in 1967 in Political Science with honors. In law school at the UW, I was a member of the Washington Law Review, where I served on the Law Review Editorial Board as Casenote Editor. During law school I joined in the ROTC. Upon graduation in 1970 I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps, and transferred to the JAG Corps three years later. I worked in the State Attorney General's Office for 17 years before moving to private practice. In the AGO I handled hundreds of child abuse and neglect cases for DSHS, was its lead trainer for caseworkers on the law of child abuse, and conducted state-wide training for prosecutors. I also did parole hearings, personal injury cases, medical doctor disciplinary hearings, and workers compensation trials. My current personal injury and family law practice includes many cases which involve interstate or international child custody. I have tried jury and non-jury cases in 22 counties in Washington State, and have been on numerous cases in the Court of Appeals and State Supreme Court. I am admitted to practice in WA and New York, the Military Court of Appeals, and the US Supreme Court. I served 27 years in the US Army Reserve, retiring in 1995 as a Lt. Col. As a JAG reservist I helped manage a walk-in legal clinic at Fort Lewis on weekends for soldiers and dependents. Many of my current clients include service members and dependents of the military. I live in Seattle with my wife, one of three sons, and a dog. My life revol...(read more) |
