4.5 years active duty, first as an infantry platoon commander with 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines on Okinawa, then was transferred to the Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C., where I had jobs as an Assistant Operations Officer and ceremonial Platoon Commander (B Company).
A side job included working at the White House for state dinners, receptions, etc.

Entered the Navy at NAS Pensacola, Fl. In 1974. Designated as a Naval Aviator in 1976 at NAS Corpus Christi. Assigned to VP-48 at NAS Moffett Field in Sunnyvale, Ca. 25 miles from Leigh High School. Join the Navy and see the world. The Squadron deployed to Naval Station Adak, Ak where I met my wife Holly (married 43 years and counting). In 1979 Left active duty at NAS Whiting Field, Fl. Where I served as a flight instructor in VT-3. Remained in the Navy Reserves in a number of assignments until 2004 when I retired as a Captain
