What is Daulton Varsho known for?

Daulton Varsho, born in Marshfield, Wisconsin on July 2, 1996, is an accomplished American professional baseball player. He is known for his versatility on the field, playing both as an outfielder and catcher. Notably, Daulton kicked off his Major League Baseball (MLB) career with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2020.

Varsho's early interest in baseball was nurtured at Marshfield High School, where he graduated in 2014. He further honed his skills at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, playing college baseball for the Milwaukee Panthers. His excellent performance in his sophomore year in 2016 earned him the Horizon League Player of the Year title, signaling the beginning of his professional trajectory.

Following his impressive amateur career, the Arizona Diamondbacks opted to recruit Varsho in the second round of the 2017 Major League Baseball draft. In his debut year, he demonstrated his potential with the Hillsboro Hops, a minor league team, wielding a terrific batting average of .311. Over the years, Varsho continued to shine with such teams as the Visalia Rawhide and the Jackson Generals. His prowess on the field led him to be selected for the 2019 All-Star Futures Game and subsequently, the United States national baseball team in the 2019 WBSC Premier12.

July 30, 2020, was a milestone in Varsho's career as he was promoted to the major leagues, and he made his debut against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Known for his strong and precise hitting, Daulton led the majors in percentage of balls pulled (54.5%) in 2022. During his tenure with the Diamondbacks, he achieved a batting average of .229, hit 61 home runs, and had 183 runs batted in.

However, in late 2022, Varsho bid farewell to the Diamondbacks, moving to play for the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Gabriel Moreno. Now, donning No. 25 for the Blue Jays, he continues to make significant contributions to his team, marking an illustrious career in the MLB.
