Kankakee Area Career Center
i remember that I did not know what The Kankakee Area Career Center was all about or even where it was located until Mr Earnest Monk, my high school counselor suggested that I look into getting involved with this place. I remember that I was so undecided because I did not think or believe that I could do any of the things that were suggested by my school mates; such as automotive, electronics, becoming an Electrician. I finally did settle for the Electrical class for 1 and 1/2 years.

Old Popcorn Popper Around 1972
I think that the year was 1972. The Momence High School Popcorn Popper had broken. My Area Career Teacher had determined that the motor had stopped working. The school ordered another motor. I was the one who uninstalled the old motor. I installed the new motor. But the popcorn popper never worked again. I was hearing here and there that the school bought a different type of popcorn popper. But some people did not like the taste of popcorn from the new popper. The Momence High School student body had voted to get the old popcorn popper fixed instead of getting a new fangled air popper.

Mr Richard Danley - Industrial Arts
Who remembers building wooden things in Mr Danley's Industrial Arts classes. I built wooden wall shelves and tore apart an old lawn mower motor and replaced parts with Mr Danleys instructions. Also I built a wooden one legged table for my mom.

Comments: Wondering if you could email me. I would like to put a request out there for students/faculty to send their favorite story to Jack Cherry, former Coach and AD at Momence HS. He has been battling cancer and his spirits are down right now. Thought he might enjoy a few fond memories. Thanks for your consideration. Beth
