About Me	My life completely changed after high school. I joined the Marine Corps and actually graduated and became a MARINE! It’s one of my greatest accomplishments and one of the best memories I have. It changed me…. They made me a man…not just a man but an honorable man. One that could finally stand up for himself and others. I am so proud to be called a Marine. While I was in the service, I finally was able to accept myself as a gay man. Upon doing that I was able to be free from myself. This is me and I am not hiding it anymore. This was 1992 and the policy on being gay in the military was “Don’t as don’t tell”. In order for me to live to be true to myself, I chose not to reenlist so that I could be me. While that decision still hurts me today because I really love being a Marine….it was the right decision for me and I will never regret that. Coming out to my mother on the day I returned home from service is a day I will always remember. When I told her, she looked at me and said I have known that all of your life and I have always wanted you to be you and I will always love you. I cried like a baby for a minute and said to her… well you could have told I was and we wouldn’t be crying right now…. Our bond only grew from there. I lost her 1.22.11 and still hurt but I know she is in a much better place than we are so…....(read more)
