Honored Military Alumni
Helen (Gamble) Keenan
Class of 1968
Army, 8 Years
I started out in the Air Force in '73, but went in the Army in '77.
In the Air Force I was one of the pioneering woman to be an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. I wish, now, that I had realized the importance of that training and what it could have done for me in later years, but instead I got out of the Air Force and went in the Army.
While in the Army I was a test administrator. I gave the entrance test (ASVAB) to all applicants for all the services.
I met my current husband while I was in the Army and we've been together since 1982.
I really enjoyed my military service days and am very happy I was able to serve our country.

Air Force, 20+ Years
Joined as a aircraft control and warning operator. Sent 28 years doing it. the 2 years in Vietnam were the most interesting. I guess control was in my blood because after the Air Force I spent 11 years as a correctional officer at the Sumter county correctional center. Another interesting job. Retired now.
