About Douglas Timothy Sorem, age 72, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 13, 2024 at Dawn Hill Nursing Home in Bristol, RI where he resided for the past two years.

Douglas was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Geary) Sorem to whom he was married for 50 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Sherlock and Anna Sorem. Besides his devoted wife, Douglas is survived by his son, Douglas Sorem (Little Doug) and his wife Alison of Swansea; two grandchildren whom he adored, Marc and Olivia Sorem; his brother Kevin Sorem and wife Claudia; his two sisters: Karen Wood and husband Thomas; Mary Lero and husband Joseph along with many nieces and nephews.

Douglas graduated from LaSalle Academy class of 1969 and earned a BA in Industrial Arts Education from Rhode Island College. He later returned back to college to earn two Master degrees. He had a passion for teaching and made a lasting impression on countless students whom he taught at Somerset High School, Mt. Hope High School, and Delsesto Middle School. He also owned and operated with his son Dalton Graphics, a printing, trophy and sign business in Somerset. He and his wife loved to travel and his favorite vacation was to Alaska where the family enjoyed the summer of 1989. Douglas was involved and active in his community and was especially proud of being a member of the Somerset Lion’s Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award. He also loved music and was a fine clarinet player and tremendously enjoyed playing in the Mosteirense Portuguese Band Club as the only Irish member.

Douglas loved to socialize and his kind, generous, and friendly manner endeared him to so many people. He never hesitated to help anyone in need and his welcoming and infectious smile could light up any room. The residents and staff at Dawn Hill loved him and became his extended family. Douglas will be sadly missed but his smile, kindness, and uplifting spirit will endure with all who knew him.
