Navy, 20+ Years
LCDR Pat Harrah enlisted in the Navy in 1981 as a Nuclear Machinist’s Mate. After attending Machinist’s Mate ‘A’ School, Naval Nuclear Power School and S8G Prototype in Ballston Spa, NY he reported to his first sea going command, USS OHIO (SSBN 726 BLUE) in June of 1983. It was here that he earned his Enlisted Submarine Dolphins and qualified Engineering Watch Supervisor/Engineering Duty Petty Officer as well as Chief of the Watch (COW) and Diving Officer of the Watch (DOOW) and advanced to First Class Petty Officer. Following a 5 year tour he returned to S8G Prototype for a staff tour where he qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch as a First Class Petty Officer and earned his designation as a Master Training Specialist. After a successful instructor tour at prototype he reported to USS West Virginia (SSBN 739 GOLD) in April of 1991, spending 5 years onboard and was promoted to Chief Machinist’s Mate in 1992. Chief Harrah then transferred to Trident Training Facility, Kings Bay, GA and completed two years of a three year instructor tour before being selected as a Chief Warrant Officer. Newly commissioned CWO2 Harrah reported to the USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) as a Technical Assistant and 2 Plant Station Officer during the first NIMITZ Class Refueling Complex Overhaul and was selected as a Limited Duty Officer. In April 2001 LCDR Harrah reported as the SUB SAFE/Quality Assurance Officer and Force Nuclear Repair Officer on the Staff, Commander Submarine Force Atlantic Fleet until December 2003. In January 2004 he reported onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) as Reactor Mechanical Assistant. While onboard LCDR Harrah qualified as Engineering Officer of the Watch, Reactor Duty Officer, and Propulsion Plant Watch Officer. Additionally, during CARL VINSON’s 2005 Global War on Terror Deployment, he qualified as Officer of the Deck (Underway) and earned his Surface Warfare Officer pin. LCDR Harrah retired in October of 2008 after 27 years of service and resides in Cypress, TX with his wife of 23 years Lisa and their two children, Blake (19), and Alec (15).
