Army Reserves, 20+ Years

Commissioned in 1973 in Claremore as the last officer commissioned there under the Oklahoma Military Academy ROTC program. After officer basic served in the USAR until mandatory retirement as a colonel in 2003. Served as a Civil Affairs branch officer after 1975. Recalled from retirement for a second tour in Iraq 2005 and 2006.
October 2005-July 2006: Chief of Essential Services, Multi-National Forces-Iraq. Coordinated military support to the oil and electricity sectors of the country of Iraq.
Feb-2003-2004: Kuwait-Iraq-252nd Civil Affairs Command; Oil Projects Coordinator/ORHA (Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance predecessor to CPA-Coalition Provisional Authority) representative to the Iraqi South Oil Company. Coordinated the resurection of the Oil and electricity sector in Southern Iraq.
Nov 2003-Mar 2003 State Department: Future of Iraq Working Group for Oil and Electricity. Represented the Army as SME for the oil industry.
1993-2003 321st Civil Affairs Brigade, Team leader, Plans Officer, Personnel Officer (G1), Operations Officer (G3) As G3- coordinated post 911 training and mobilization operations of geographically dispersed subordinate battalions. As Plans Officer, coordinated democratization seminars "The Role of the Military in a Democracy" for multiple nations in Sub-Saharan Africa. 4 day seminar presented to senior commanders of national militaries and parlimentary defense commissions (PDC). Was principal author of one course for the PDC's. Trained and mobilized multiple battalions for deployment to the former Yugoslavia.
1997-1998 Deployed to Bosnia: Battalion Comander of the MND-N (Multi-National Division-North) CIMIC (Civil Military Cooperation) Battalion. The first NATO deployed international Civil Affairs (CIMIC) battalion. Commanded military members from 13 different nations supporting peace keeping and reconstruction operations in the former Yugoslavia. Participated in training the follow-on force that relieved us in 1998.
1996- Civil Affairs/J5 Joint Task Group Bulkely, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Responsible for preserving the human rights of 14,000 Cuban Migrants in 13 camps.
Various humanitarian operations in Central America.
Multiple NATO exercises in Germany as a Civil Affairs/CIMIC Liaison Officer to the German Army.
1980-Supported care and feeding of Cuban Balseros (boat people) from the Mariel Boat Lift at Ft. Chaffee.
Awards: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal(2), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Various expeditionary and campaign medals, and the usual warm body salad.
