Class of 1989
Army, 20+ Years

Upon graduating Columbus East (Class of 89), I went to Fort Leonardwood, Mo to attend Basic and Advanced Training. Once I graduated training I went to my first duty assignment in Fort Sill, OK. While stationed there I was deployed to Operation Desert Shield/Storm in the Middle East. When I got back, Mayor Stewart presented me with "The Key to the City of Columbus" prior to the welcome home parade. My next assignment was Baumholder, Germany. After that two year assignment, I went to Fort Riley, Ks where I met my beautiful wife of 15 yrs on 11 Aug 09, Regina. While I was stationed there I was deployed to the mountains of Idaho to fight forrest fires that were destroying homes thougout the region. Prior to leaving for my next assignment, Regina gave birth to my son; Kevin Jr. About a month after he was born I went to Schweinfurt, Germany and was delpoyed to Kosovo and Macedonia. After 9/11 I was sent to be an Observer/Controller-Trainer for the AC/RC component. at Fort Knox, KY. My duties consisted of training and mobilizing the National Guard and Reserve Component for Homeland Defense and Theaters of Operation. While at Fort Knox, I spend almost a year at a time in mob staitions in Hattiesburg, MS, Fort McCoy, WI and a few months in Camp Atterbury, IN (HOME!!). I had the pleasure of enjoying several hurricanes in the Gulf, to include Ivan on my birthday and Katrina. In 2006, I went to my last duty assignment, Fort Leonardwood, Mo where I was part of a New Systems intergration team. We traveld the globe, visited factories that manufactured engineer systems, trained units and fielded units with the new equipment. I recently retired after 20 yrs and 19 days of service. Along the road I held postions of Team Leader, Squad Leader, Operations Sergeant for both company and battalion level, Platoon Sergeant, Augmentee OC for both the National Training Center (NTC) and the Combined Manuever Training Center (CMTC), Senior Training Developer/Writer, OC-T, and Information Assurance Systems Officer. Don't regret it and would recommend it to anyone as a good way to grow up and mature. It disciplined me and helped me become a responsible adult. Anyone who knew me in HS knows I barely graduated. The Army helped me realize that I can do anything I put my mind to, and I pretty much have. I graduated 2 degrees; both with honors and have excelled through my graduate degree which is almost complete.
