Joseph Kalisek
Class of 1982
Army, 30 Years
Major Joseph W. Kalisek (U.S. Army/ ILARNG, Infantry) graduated from Johnsburg High School in 1982 with a four year distinguished high school athletic career. Mr. Kalisek enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1985. From 1986-1990, he was part of the elite U.S. Army 1st Ranger Battalion conducting operations in our nations War on drugs in the Central American Jungles of Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama. In 1989, as SGT Kalisek, he engaged in Special Operations missions in Jordan preceding his activation for the 1st Gulf War. Following his first enlistment, SGT Kalisek was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in January of 1990. Two weeks after discharge, he joined the Illinois Army National Guard. In 1992, while serving with the Woodstock Infantry, then SSG Kalisek was called to serve in Operation Desert Storm. He was called to State Active Duty during the Great Mississippi Flood of 1993. In 1994, SFC Kalisek graduated from Roosevelt University with a B.A. in History. In 1998, as Lieutenant Kalisek, he deployed to Panama with his National Guard Infantry Company. In 2000, he became a teacher at McHenry East Campus. Major/Mr. Kalisek has taught at both East and West Campuses since that time. After 9/11, his time as a teacher at McHenry High School was disrupted by multiple deployments. Major Kalisek has been deployed to Kuwait in 2000, Iraqi Freedom in 2005-06 and two campaigns during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2008 and 2011-12. His last position was as Operations Officer for an Army Digital Liaison Team out of Chicago, providing technical expertise and training of foreign and U.S. soldiers for deployment into Coalition battle zones.
